Fall 2016 Ready to Wear

The Ralph Lauren Ready to Wear Collection has always been a standby for me. The fabrics are solid, sizing a little roomier for a fuller figure, and colors classic. This year’s fall collection was true to the Ralph Lauren roots:

“The show opened with a passage of neutral looks, and the first models came out wearing billowing high-waisted pants and neatly tailored blazers in shades of beige, a color that has long been a Lauren signature. That monochromatic styling made way for more distinctive themes, starting with the plaid-on-plaid knit tube skirts and fringed capes, and a Navajo-inspired jacket that managed to conjure the outdoorsy spirit of the English countryside and an arid landscape of the American West all at once. One of the most appealing coats in the collection had a cozy, robelike silhouette and was cut from a patchwork of tweeds that could have been swiped straight from Sherlock Holmes’s closet.” Vogue

Style vs Fashion

Having always thought that being in style was the same as being fashionable, I have learned there is a difference!

zuhair murad Fashion show 2010 by ƇƠƆŌ ϚĤåŅĒŁStyle Upgrade says that “Fashion is the latest and most admired style in clothes and cosmetics and behavior.”

While Haute Couture, High Fashion, and High Style are all trend setting fashions, Style brings my fashion selections into my choices to create a style all my own. I have noticed that my fashion choices have changed as I have aged, and my body has changed. This doesn’t mean I don’t have style.  Instead, I adapt my style to those changes, and try to project my changing self image into my style. [Read more…]

Column Dressing – So Easy!

column dressing exampleLast week I attended a business luncheon at which I was seated next to a future Hall of Fame athlete. I wore a black column (black slacks and black knit sleeveless sweater), topped with a cobalt blue jacket. Pulled together very nicely, if I do say so. But, there is a funny story behind my ensemble. I was wearing my black column, topped with a lovely winter white double breasted jacket when I left the house that morning. Just before leaving my office to head over to the luncheon, our Executive Director walked by my door, and I caught a glimpse of the back of her jacket, realizing we had the EXACT same outfit on – black columns and winter white jacket. I immediately let her know that I would leave right away and stop by my house for a quick change  on the way to the luncheon.

Because I had my column on, it was so easy to run in, make a decision between a cobalt blue and kelly green blazer, and back out the door. Phew! Column dressing is so versatile, I highly recommend you have a few in your wardrobe for any occasion. [Read more…]

What Are the Right Colors for You?

Color selection is very personal, yet we sometimes allow fashion trends and our peers to have a great influence in our choices. A perfect example of this is the color black. Afraid to be caught in bright pink, vibrant turquoise or lime green? Then choose black to be safe. Maybe you don’t have a clue what a good color is for you, or you have had your “colors done” in the past, only to realize they really weren’t that complimentary on you.Rainbow Parrots by MikeJonesPhoto

Take a very good look at your skin, hair, eyes and hands to determine colors that will make you come alive and bring your image together.  Once I began to see the colors that are in your skin tone, you can discover the most flattering colors and the colors that coordinate best with them.

5 Tips to Get Noticed

“Dress shabbily, they notice the dress. Dress impeccably, they notice the woman.” – Coco Chanel

What do you think? Does it all come down to dress?

I think dress is one of the ingredients to being noticed, but there is so much more.

My recipe includes:

Duchess Catherine Cambridge1.  Canvas ~ The health and appearance of your skin, facial features and how you enhance each is definitely the foundation of your appearance. Skin health begins on the inside. Many skin issues arise from lack of skin hygiene, inflammation, hormonal swings or unhealthy gastrointestinal tract as the root cause. Address these issues and you will most likely bring a healthy, vibrant glow to your skin. [Read more…]

How to Tweak, Update or Overhaul Your Personal Image

It just happens. Your life is busy, time flies by, and the next thing you know you are ambushed by Stacy and Clinton from “What Not to Wear”! Well, almost.

This is when you realize your skin is starting to sag,  gray hairs are springing up, you can’t find your makeup colors at the store because they’re no longer being made, your pants all have elastic waistbands, and your kids cringe when you get out of the car in public. Is this you? This was me. My daughter did send in a request for Stacy and Clinton to work their magic on me. Twice. I don’t need to say anymore!

I kind of lost myself in everyone else’s lives and let my own go.  As time went on, and the kids became more independent, I could see my light at the end of the “mommy” tunnel. I took on a new job, and started a new business. Being back in the “real world” caused me to take stock of my public image, and realize that I needed to make changes in order to be someone people were proud to be around, happy to be seen in public with, and someone my family and colleagues could look up to.

Here are my tips from my tweaks, updates and overhaul over the past couple of years: [Read more…]

How About a Faux Fur Vest for Fall!

Thinking of adding a faux fur vest to your fall wardrobe? I am, but I need to be careful, with my height (5’11”) and age (let’s just say over 40), I don’t want to look like a Sasquatch or a snowball!

Here are a few styles I’ve come across while browsing around… [Read more…]

It’s an Arm Party and You’re Invited!

Yes. I said ARM PARTY. Honestly, I have no idea what on earth you think that means, but allow me to clarify.

Arm Party: an extensive amount of bangles, watches, bracelets, rubber bands, etc located on your wrists, preferably.

All of the above together creates a party, of accessories, on your arm.

Now, you might be tempted to say ‘pish tosh this is old news, there were arm parties when I was in high school…middle school even!’  read more…
