4 Steps to Applying Skin Care for Greatest Benefit

Do we know if the order of applying our skin care products aids or deters them being absorbed fully, giving us the full benefits of our products? Dermatology researchers now tell us it is important to prioritize the order in which we apply our cleansers, serums, medications and lotions.

Cleanse facial skin first

“Medications or treatments should be applied directly after washing your face,” said board-certified dermatologist Susan C. Taylor, MD, FAAD. “This ensures that the medications or treatments are properly absorbed by the skin. Otherwise, people may think a product isn’t working because it’s applied in the wrong order.”

My experience goes along with what Dr. Taylor suggests as the optimum order of application: [Read more…]

7 Tips to Keep Your Skin Moist in Cold, Dry Weather

The winds are beginning to blow, and heaters are being turned on everywhere you go! Do you struggle with dry, flaking, itchy skin in the winter?

When that unpleasant chill hits the air, it’s time to get tips on how to keep your skin hydrated in the wintertime. Dryness can be uncomfortable, and it’s important to defend yourself against the elements in order to maintain smoothness and suppleness all season long. Keeping skin beautiful and hydrated in colder weather calls for both internal and external care.

Soft, hydrated skin!

Dry skin care tips for Morning

  • Wash your face with lukewarm water—not too hot and not too cold— to wake yourself up without drying the skin or constricting your pores.
  • Cleanse your skin with a sulfate-free cleanser. Sulfates are extremely drying and irritating to the skin. In addition, lathering bar soaps and strong foaming face washes strip the skin of its natural protective water and oils.  Celloxylin Step 1. Crème Cleanse!
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. As you probably already know, moisturizing is key for dry skin types. Apply your moisturizer right after cleansing to lock in the water before it evaporates. Look for a moisturizer with a broad spectrum SPF to protect against the sun’s damaging rays. Celloxylin Step 5. Day Defense Plus, Broad Spectrum SPF 25

Dry skin care tips for Day

  • Your skin will dry out as it’s exposed to the elements throughout the day. That’s why it’s important to re-apply moisturizer whenever you notice your skin becoming dry. Carry a moisturizer in your bag so you can dab a little on whenever necessary.  Celloxylin Hydro-Burst Moisture Intense Lotion.
Drink water. It may seem obvious, but sipping on water throughout the day naturally keeps your body— and by extension— your skin cells, hydrated.

Dry skin care tips for Night

  • At night, once again cleanse your skin of makeup and the day’s pollutants with a gentle, sulfate-free cleanser using lukewarm water
  • Immediately after, apply a heavier moisturizer or cream that will sink in throughout the night. Rich creams are dry skin’s best friend. Look for creams containing nourishing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin or oils such as olive, and coconut oil. While these thicker lotions are too heavy for the day, the night gives your skin plenty of time to absorb all of their hydrating properties. Try our Celloxylin Step 5. Night Repair 3Deep!

Cleansing to Protect and Nourish Your Skin

Cleansing Without Compromise

Cleansing helps remove the dirt, oil, and other impurities from your skin’s surface and in your pores. It is the first step in improving your skin’s appearance, preventing blemishes, discoloration, inflammation, and general dullness. It is also the first step in nourishing your skin and protecting the delicate structure that keeps it functioning in a healthful manner!

Crème CleanseWhen cleansing your skin, it is essential you choose a product that is gentle, natural, and devoid of harsh, irritating ingredients. Unfortunately, many cleansing products are designed with soaps and surfactants that can actually strip your skin of its natural oils, leaving it tight, dry, and susceptible to irritation. If you’ve ever washed your skin and feel it pull tight against your face afterwards, it’s likely that you have disrupted the natural layer that protects your skin against bacteria and moisture loss. After cleansing, you always want your skin to feel fresh and supple, not tight and dry. [Read more…]

4 Tips for Vibrant Skin with Changing Seasons

If your skin could talk, what would it say to you? “Help me, I’m drying out!” or “I can’t breathe with so many old skin cells piling up all over me!” or “I’m red, itching and burning up! Put out the fire!” or even “I’m feeling old, sluggish and oh, so droopy! I need a quick Pick-Me-Up!

bundled upAs we go from season to season, our skin’s protective function needs to adjust. We go from cold temperatures with the  icy winds of winter and dry heaters blasting in your car and home, to the milder temperatures of spring, a rain shower here and there, and the sun showing its smiling face more often with a little greater intensity. Prepare and Protect Your Skin from Winter Weather!

The winter winds are beginning to blow, parts of the country are having snow, and your heaters are going strong!  Here are some great tips to keep your skin moist and soft through the winter months.

Let’s start with the signs of dry, wintry skin and what you can do to help heal and moisturize:

Symptoms of Dry Skin

Skin tightness   •   Skin appears dull and less supple   •   Rough skin   •   Scaling, Flaking, or peeling skin   •   Cracking that may bleed if severe   •   Itching   •   Redness

For many, the winter months bring dry, itchy, tight feeling skin that lacks the glowing, youthful appearance seen in warmer months. Why? As the temperature drops, our skin is bombarded with forces that cause dryness and leave it feeling and looking a bit lackluster. Central heating reduces indoor humidity, while outside cold, dry, windy weather strips skin of its moisture. Often the worst damage is caused when the harsh glare of winter sun off of snow and ice increases exposure to harmful UV radiation. While the combined effects of indoor and outdoor conditions may leave your skin in need of a little extra TLC, for others the effects can be as severe as cracking, flaking skin and even eczema. Following a few simple suggestions will make it easy to maintain healthy, glowing skin even when winter throws its worst at us! [Read more…]

Anti-Aging Health Benefits of Resveratrol?

Recent scientific research in the laboratory has shown that the benefits of resveratrol from the skins and seeds of red grapes include antioxidant, anti-inflammatory effect, cellular energy production and cancer cell suppression.

“Resveratrol has been found to inhibit proliferation and induce apoptosis in a number of cancer cell lines…. inhibit the activity of several inflammatory enzymes…” Oregon State University, Linus Pauling Institute

“Over the last decade, Sinclair and colleagues including Leonard Guarente at Massachusetts Institute of Technology have published a body of research describing how resveratrol improves energy production and overall health in cells by activating a class of genes called sirtuins that are integral to mitochondrial function. When Should I Start Using Anti-Aging Skin Care?

skin-tonerWhen should I start using anti-aging skin care products? How does my skin and appearance change as I go through life? What can I do to slow it down, or prevent it from showing these changes?

Great questions I’m asked often, most recently by a beautiful 20-something as we were chatting about the biggest problem she has with her skin right now. Surprisingly, it was the beginnings of eye and lip wrinkles!

Smile Without Showing Your Age!

smileShow your emotions, not your age!

People often ask me, “Do I really need a unique moisturizer for my eye and lip areas?” This is a great question — though your skin will definitely benefit from applying a full-face moisturizer to the eye and lip areas, the fact is that these areas are very unique compared to the rest of your skin. Not only are eye and lip areas subject to stress from repetitive movements like smiling and squinting, they are also thinner, more delicate, and produce less natural oil than the skin on rest of your face. All of this results in skin that will show signs and symptoms of aging. It also means that skin around the eyes and lips needs more nourishment and hydration to remain healthy and young looking. How to Fight the 4 Core Influences of Aging

What are the four core influences of aging, how do they affect what we experience physically, and what we see in the mirror as we grow older?

Why does an Internal + External approach to the battle against the visible signs of aging work the best?

Consumers are increasingly seeking “anti-aging” cosmetic products that treat the visible signs of natural and environmental aging, such as wrinkles, lines, sagging, hyperpigmentation and age spots.  The problem is, products that only focus on treating the signs of aging are not proactive or preventative.  This is what sets Apriori Beauty™ apart from the rest – Apriori Beauty sought to take an innovative approach to targeting the causes of aging, not just the symptoms by introducing the Cellular Age Advantage™, a proactive, internal + external approach that utilizes the Nutrient Reservoir™ to address the core causes of cellular aging! How to Tweak, Update or Overhaul Your Personal Image

It just happens. Your life is busy, time flies by, and the next thing you know you are ambushed by Stacy and Clinton from “What Not to Wear”! Well, almost.

This is when you realize your skin is starting to sag,  gray hairs are springing up, you can’t find your makeup colors at the store because they’re no longer being made, your pants all have elastic waistbands, and your kids cringe when you get out of the car in public. Is this you? This was me. My daughter did send in a request for Stacy and Clinton to work their magic on me. Twice. I don’t need to say anymore!

I kind of lost myself in everyone else’s lives and let my own go.  As time went on, and the kids became more independent, I could see my light at the end of the “mommy” tunnel. I took on a new job, and started a new business. Being back in the “real world” caused me to take stock of my public image, and realize that I needed to make changes in order to be someone people were proud to be around, happy to be seen in public with, and someone my family and colleagues could look up to.

Here are my tips from my tweaks, updates and overhaul over the past couple of years: [Read more…]

Skin Perfecting Mineral Powders

When I first heard of Mineral Powder Makeup, visions of Elizabeth Taylor in “Cleopatra” came to mind. She would have her servant girls go down to the Nile River and bring her the most beautiful colors from the riverbanks – or so I thought. Well, how else could she have so many beautiful colors to use for her “look”?

Mineral Powders are quite the trend right now, and with women looking for natural cosmetics, they are in high demand.

Ni’Kita Wilson, a cosmetic chemist at Englewood Lab in New Jersey says, “zinc oxide is FDA-approved as a skin protectant. “It has some anti-inflammatory properties, so you’ll see it in products like diaper-rash ointment,” she says. “Since mineral makeup contains a higher percentage of zinc oxide than traditional makeup, it can be useful in calming irritated skin.” (The Lowdown on Mineral Makeup) [Read more…]
