7 Tips to Keep Your Skin Moist in Cold, Dry Weather

The winds are beginning to blow, and heaters are being turned on everywhere you go! Do you struggle with dry, flaking, itchy skin in the winter?

When that unpleasant chill hits the air, it’s time to get tips on how to keep your skin hydrated in the wintertime. Dryness can be uncomfortable, and it’s important to defend yourself against the elements in order to maintain smoothness and suppleness all season long. Keeping skin beautiful and hydrated in colder weather calls for both internal and external care.

Soft, hydrated skin!

Dry skin care tips for Morning

  • Wash your face with lukewarm water—not too hot and not too cold— to wake yourself up without drying the skin or constricting your pores.
  • Cleanse your skin with a sulfate-free cleanser. Sulfates are extremely drying and irritating to the skin. In addition, lathering bar soaps and strong foaming face washes strip the skin of its natural protective water and oils.  Celloxylin Step 1. Crème Cleanse!
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. As you probably already know, moisturizing is key for dry skin types. Apply your moisturizer right after cleansing to lock in the water before it evaporates. Look for a moisturizer with a broad spectrum SPF to protect against the sun’s damaging rays. Celloxylin Step 5. Day Defense Plus, Broad Spectrum SPF 25

Dry skin care tips for Day

  • Your skin will dry out as it’s exposed to the elements throughout the day. That’s why it’s important to re-apply moisturizer whenever you notice your skin becoming dry. Carry a moisturizer in your bag so you can dab a little on whenever necessary.  Celloxylin Hydro-Burst Moisture Intense Lotion.
Drink water. It may seem obvious, but sipping on water throughout the day naturally keeps your body— and by extension— your skin cells, hydrated.

Dry skin care tips for Night

  • At night, once again cleanse your skin of makeup and the day’s pollutants with a gentle, sulfate-free cleanser using lukewarm water
  • Immediately after, apply a heavier moisturizer or cream that will sink in throughout the night. Rich creams are dry skin’s best friend. Look for creams containing nourishing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin or oils such as olive, and coconut oil. While these thicker lotions are too heavy for the day, the night gives your skin plenty of time to absorb all of their hydrating properties. Try our Celloxylin Step 5. Night Repair 3Deep!

Easy Healthy Self Tanner

Easy Healthy Self Tanner, by Candy Dye

I have a new twist to my nourishing body moisturizer that adds a little color to my hidden-from-the-sun pale skin. This little twist is a creamy veil that I add a little (or a lot) to my dollop of body lotion. It allows me to control level of intensity of color shade, so that as summer goes on, and my skin picks up a little color of it’s own, I can minimize or maximize the color. [Read more…]

Are Your Facial Features Disappearing With Age?

Are your facial features disappearing with age? Facial feature definition is an observational tool we subconsciously use in deciding someone’s age, according to a recent study from the Chanel Epidermal and Sensory Research and Investigation Center which studies skin related issues and facial appearance. (See Science Daily for article discussion.)

In one study, (Psychology Prof. Richard) Russell and his team measured images of 289 faces ranging in age from 20 to 70 years old, and found that through the aging process, the color of the lips, eyes and eyebrows change, while the skin becomes darker. This results in less contrast between the features and the surrounding skin – leaving older faces to have less contrast than younger faces.”

Facial Feature Contrast

Basically, our darker features lighten, eyebrows are lightened by hair loss, the intensity of our lip color fades, and our skin tones darken.

Why Should You Exfoliate?

giant dust bunnies? by mbkeppDid you know that “dust bunnies”, those wisps of dust found under beds and chairs, are made up of dead skin cells? Put that in your “things that I really didn’t need to know” file, right?  The reason I mention this, is that we are constantly shedding skin cells – all over the place, all the time!  As we get older, they don’t come off quite as easily or as quickly.  I heard someone once say “that’s why old people smell and have a grayish hue to their skin”.  While I’m not so sure about that, I do know that I don’t want anything dead stuck on me ever!!

The best way I know to get rid of the dead skin cells on the face and body is by using an exfoliant. [Read more…]
