4 Steps to Applying Skin Care for Greatest Benefit

Do we know if the order of applying our skin care products aids or deters them being absorbed fully, giving us the full benefits of our products? Dermatology researchers now tell us it is important to prioritize the order in which we apply our cleansers, serums, medications and lotions.

Cleanse facial skin first

“Medications or treatments should be applied directly after washing your face,” said board-certified dermatologist Susan C. Taylor, MD, FAAD. “This ensures that the medications or treatments are properly absorbed by the skin. Otherwise, people may think a product isn’t working because it’s applied in the wrong order.”

My experience goes along with what Dr. Taylor suggests as the optimum order of application: [Read more…]

How to Enjoy the Sun and Protect Your Skin!

Ever wonder how those beautiful, warm rays of the sun can have such long lasting and damaging effects on your skin?

Like a straightened rainbow, you can picture the spectrum of sunlight with the red, orange and yellow wavelengths being the longest and making up infrared light.  As wavelengths shorten, green and blue light speeds up into indigo blue and violet colors, which are visible and contain Ultraviolet A and Ultraviolet B rays.  These are the rays that cause sun damage to our skin. A Little Concealer Goes a Long Way

How do you lighten up the larger, deeper wrinkles – you know, the ones between your eyebrows and on the sides of your nose down to your chin? You have them, too? Feeling like a ‘wrinkle dog” some days?

Here are my tips for lightening, reflecting and concealing the “11’s” as they are referred to, with a few makeup tricks. I call the the one between my eyebrows the “furrow of concentration”, because it comes when I am concentrating, and the one on the sides of my nose and mouth the “parentheses of happiness”, because it comes from smiling big and often!

Rosacea ~ What It is and How to Manage It

Rosacea. It’s a dreaded word if you care about how your face looks – which is all of us. It conjures up pictures of W.C. Field with his large, bulbous nose, cigar in one hand and drink in the other.  What if you’re not a stodgy old guy, but  a beautiful young 3o or 40 something with young children? Now what do you do?

First let’s look at what one the most recent scientific study’s shows:

“A team of researchers, led by Richard L. Gallo, M.D., Ph.D., professor of medicine and chief of the Division of Dermatology at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine and the Dermatology section of the Veterans Affairs San Diego Healthcare System, has determined that it is not one, but a combination of two abnormal factors, that result in rosacea. Tips for the Manly Man’s Healthy Skin!

Do men care about their looks more than their skin? Do they think they look young and virile, completely missing the wrinkles around their eyes and mouth from years of sports, sun damage and fun-filled nights?

Man doing bodybuilding at gym by NPE Demo SiteThat’s what I came away with after spending a full day in a gym, talking to quite a few men, most of who were in their late forties to early fifties. What was the most astonishing to me, was that they did not think they had any fine lines or wrinkles at all, and what’s more, definitely didn’t want to try anything to combat the signs of aging showing all over their manly faces.

They were very worried about puffiness under eyes, and feeling their facial skin was developing areas of dryness that nothing seemed to help. It was  clear to me that they are extremely concerned about their appearance, and maintaining their youthful physique by keeping their muscles buffed.  Their skin was only important if there was a skin issue that was bothersome or it was pointed out to them that they were beginning to show signs of aging. One even said to me “I don’t have any wrinkles” while looking me in the eye – he had a zillion around his eyes and lips and was definitely not a sunscreen user! [Read more…]

What is Beneficial Beauty?

In today’s market, the demand for anti-aging skin care continues to grow rapidly!   While Baby-Boomers look for new methods to slow aging and reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, a younger generation is increasingly seeking out preventative anti-aging strategies to help them look younger longer.  Topically applied products are undeniably an important tool for supporting skin appearance, structure and function – we love to slather cream everywhere it seems!Happy! by iamamylou

While incredible advances in anti-aging technology are making skin care products more and more effective, for many people, fighting the clock is a losing battle.  Why?  No matter how many “Potions and Lotions” we spread on our skin, the single most important – and BASIC – step in maintaining healthy, beautiful skin is taking care of it from the inside out! Tips to Prevent Chronic Inflammation

Ever had a paper cut?  Ouch!  So tiny, yet so red and painful!  That redness and pain is a result of acute inflammation.   A simple little cut in our skin causes our body’s immune system to activate a variety of cecut finger by TheTruthAbout...lls that destroy bacteria, form blood clots, and renew the skin so that our wound heals with a tiny little scar.PA280032 by Calpurnius

Acute inflammation has a special short-term purpose of healing our bodies from injury, infection,  and allergies.  Once the situation is under control, the inflammatory response shuts down. Chronic inflammation occurs when our body doesn’t  recognize when the “fire is out”, and there are still “smouldering embers” somewhere inside.

Let me put it another way.  We’re sitting on the 50 yard line, watching our home team football game, and we have the ball.  The opponent is our cross town rival  and we begin to run the ball.  The defense pushes back, effectively, but doesn’t stop when the play is done!  Then, our opponent’s bench Battle for the Ball by Mark Griffithclears as they all join in, aggressively continuing to tackle us.  Unbelievably, these guys start going into the stands, taking out the spectators!  People of all ages are getting hurt, the trainers and medics can’t take care of the injured quickly enough, and our team can’t shut them down!

Silly example, I know, but you get the idea!  As our body’s immune system continues fighting the infection, injury or allergy, even after things have calmed down, damage is done to tissues and organs that were otherwise perfectly healthy.  Chronic inflammation consists of acute inflammation that just keeps going, having far-reaching effects.  If  left uncontrolled over time, it can lead to degenerative conditions and diseases.

Here are some lifestyle changes that we can implement right now to vastly reduce the inflammation already existing in our bodies and prevent it in the future.

  • mediterranean salad by SabincheDIET Diets high in sugar and saturated fats promote inflammation.  A great way to change it up is by increasing our intake of monosaturated fats like cold pressed extra virgin olive oil, adding Omega 3 (we use Flax Seed oil at our house), and eating whole grains, rainbow-colored fruits and vegetables, and dark chocolate (80% if you can). Look for probiotics in Kefir, live active cultured yogurts, or even a probiotic tablet is good.
  • MAINTAIN A HEALTHY WEIGHT Prevents chronic inflammatory diseases.  Don’t forget to EXERCISE!! Even as little as a brisk walk for half an hour a day will make a huge difference in your overall health and bone strength!
  • STOP SMOKING! “nuff said!”
  • GET PLENTY OF REST Solid, uninterrupted, restful sleep restores, replenishes and rejuvenates our body’s cells and tissues.  If you can, a good 7 – 10 hours a night is the goal.
  • Mr.Sleep Puff Bear *Kumanoko* by Seattle RollREDUCE STRESS Yes, you can!!  Try some yoga, meditation, deep breathing, listening to calming sounds, visualization and relaxation techniques, and saying “no” more often to over commitment.
  • SUPPLEMENTS When you eat on the fly, you can’t always be assured of getting all the nutrients your body needs! When it comes to antioxidant supplements, I can only recommend one product line, because IT WORKS and has the widest variety of high antioxidant fruits and vegetables available!  Lifeoxylin Elixir lets you drink your colors!  Diets high in antioxidant rich fruits and vegetables provide a wide array of health benefits; in addition to protecting our cells from oxidative stress, antioxidants are known to strengthen our immune systems, reduce cancer risk, prevent macular degeneration, and protect against heart disease. What colors do you get from Lifeoxylin Elixir? Concord Grape, Blueberry, Purple Carrot, Acai, Noni, Blackberry, Mangosteen, Beet, Escobillo, Goji Berry, Pomegranate, Apple, Cranberry, Strawberry, Mango, Quebracho Extract, Yellow Carrot, Pineapple, Pear, Aloe Vera, Polypodium, Broccoli, Olive Leaf Extract, Spinach, PLUS…RESVERATROL, CO Q 10, and ATP (energy!)
  • Colorful by stukinhaSKIN CARE Celloxylin Skin Care System is jam-packed with Free Radical fighting ingredients such as Resveratrol, Caffeine, Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Rhodiola Rosea Root Extract, and Angelica Polymorpha Sinensis Root Extract to name just a few. Skin is the largest organ in our body, and what we put on our skin goes directly into our bloodstream. It is wonderful that there is now a way to put these great antioxidants right on our skin, so we can get the oxidative stress/free radical fighters working internally and externally, all day long, every day.

So, please, while you can, take care of yourself from the inside out and even aging can be beautiful!!

I Love My Results!

Worried about what to do about your wrinkles and saggy skin? Want to look younger?

I can say without question or doubt, I love my younger look!

What I see is reduction in wrinkles, “lifting” of my whole face (- doesn’t it look a little slimmer?), and when I’m not smiling the vertical wrinkles around my lips are gone. The )( between my eyebrows is much less visible (hard to see with my bangs) and  I love the way my skin feels all the time now.  Even the visible blood vessels on my cheeks and chin are reduced as the surrounding skin is healthier, providing greater elasticity and support. Without the acids in my daily skin care, I don’t feel like my face is “dry and tight” any longer – a lot more spring and softness!

Here’s what I’m using from Apriori Beauty:

~ Skincare regimen included using  Celloxylin skincare system daily~

~ The Derma Firm Illuminator five nights a week ~

Sugar Beet Crystal/Papaya Enzyme Microscrub three times a week ~

~ Celloxylin MD 20Ex Acid Peel twice a week ~

~ Drinking Lifeoxylin Elixir for internal cellular support ~

WOW!! I am just thrilled with my results!

Thanks for stopping by and “Making My Life Beautiful”!
