Eating Soy Improves Health in Some Breast Cancers

Is Soy Safe? - Plant Based Dietitian

Soy

An epidemiological analysis of data from more than 6,000 American and Canadian women with breast cancer finds that post-diagnosis consumption of foods containing isoflavones — estrogen-like compounds primarily found in soy food — is associated with a 21 percent decrease in all-cause mortality. This decrease was seen only in women with hormone-receptor-negative tumors, and in women who were not treated with endocrine therapy such as tamoxifen. [Read more…]

Activating Tonic or Toner?

What’s in Your Tonic?

After cleansing, it is common to use a toner or astringent to help remove the last traces of impurities and help close pores.

Unfortunately, many toner type products contain drying alcohol that can disrupt skin barrier function and increase drying of your skin.

Step 2 in the Celloxylin® regimen, Activating Tonic, is uniquely formulated to take advantage of the water absorbed by skin during cleansing and help prepare the skin to fully utilize the benefits of subsequent products in the regimen by opening your pores for better absorption of the Firming Complex.

Cleansing to Protect and Nourish Your Skin

Cleansing Without Compromise

Cleansing helps remove the dirt, oil, and other impurities from your skin’s surface and in your pores. It is the first step in improving your skin’s appearance, preventing blemishes, discoloration, inflammation, and general dullness. It is also the first step in nourishing your skin and protecting the delicate structure that keeps it functioning in a healthful manner!

Crème CleanseWhen cleansing your skin, it is essential you choose a product that is gentle, natural, and devoid of harsh, irritating ingredients. Unfortunately, many cleansing products are designed with soaps and surfactants that can actually strip your skin of its natural oils, leaving it tight, dry, and susceptible to irritation. If you’ve ever washed your skin and feel it pull tight against your face afterwards, it’s likely that you have disrupted the natural layer that protects your skin against bacteria and moisture loss. After cleansing, you always want your skin to feel fresh and supple, not tight and dry. [Read more…]

Pristine Nails with Natural White Tips

Ever since my first visit to Paris as a 19 year old, I have an admiration for how French women care for themselves. Looking out my hotel window the morning after I arrived, I watched Parisians walking, walking, walking, looking stunningly healthy and gorgeous. Seeing the beautiful older women, wearing scads of jewelry, high heels, coifed to perfection, I remember wishing my mother and grandmother looked so elegant and chic.

Prepare and Protect Your Skin from Winter Weather!

The winter winds are beginning to blow, parts of the country are having snow, and your heaters are going strong!  Here are some great tips to keep your skin moist and soft through the winter months.

Let’s start with the signs of dry, wintry skin and what you can do to help heal and moisturize:

Symptoms of Dry Skin

Skin tightness   •   Skin appears dull and less supple   •   Rough skin   •   Scaling, Flaking, or peeling skin   •   Cracking that may bleed if severe   •   Itching   •   Redness

For many, the winter months bring dry, itchy, tight feeling skin that lacks the glowing, youthful appearance seen in warmer months. Why? As the temperature drops, our skin is bombarded with forces that cause dryness and leave it feeling and looking a bit lackluster. Central heating reduces indoor humidity, while outside cold, dry, windy weather strips skin of its moisture. Often the worst damage is caused when the harsh glare of winter sun off of snow and ice increases exposure to harmful UV radiation. While the combined effects of indoor and outdoor conditions may leave your skin in need of a little extra TLC, for others the effects can be as severe as cracking, flaking skin and even eczema. Following a few simple suggestions will make it easy to maintain healthy, glowing skin even when winter throws its worst at us! [Read more…]

Those Dark Spots on Your Nose Not Blackheads?

Sebaceous filamentsThey look like baby blackheads but they they aren’t, and no matter what you do, you can’t get rid of them. You wish you could wear a sign that says “no blackheads here, don’t stare!”, right? If they aren’t blackheads, then what are they?

Sebaceous filaments are hairlike “threads” that help direct the flow of natural oil produced in your sebum or oil gland to the surface skin. They are light grey to tan, distributed around an oily area such as your nose and chin, and are smooth to touch. When pressure is applied, nothing will be expressed, as the pore is open with nothing plugging the opening.
