Pomegranates are Good for Your Skin!

Our skin is a reflection of what’s going on inside our body, so it only makes sense to nourish and protect our skin by taking in foods that soothe and calm our inflammation. Pomegranate fruit is one such food that has a great effect on the inside of our body, and can help our skin become more beautiful as well!

Pomegranate!

Pomegranate fruit is rich in two types of polyphenolic compounds, anthocyanins and hydrolysable tannins, and is known for its potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Studies have demonstrated the potential for clinical use of pomegranate in the prevention and treatment of cancer (1), and its anti-inflammatory properties make it useful for addressing other diseases where chronic inflammation plays a critical role (2). It is also known to promote cardiovascular health by preventing low-density lipoprotein oxidation, reducing blood pressure and slowing the development of atherosclerosis (3).

Anti-Aging Health Benefits of Resveratrol?

Recent scientific research in the laboratory has shown that the benefits of resveratrol from the skins and seeds of red grapes include antioxidant, anti-inflammatory effect, cellular energy production and cancer cell suppression.

“Resveratrol has been found to inhibit proliferation and induce apoptosis in a number of cancer cell lines…. inhibit the activity of several inflammatory enzymes…” Oregon State University, Linus Pauling Institute

“Over the last decade, Sinclair and colleagues including Leonard Guarente at Massachusetts Institute of Technology have published a body of research describing how resveratrol improves energy production and overall health in cells by activating a class of genes called sirtuins that are integral to mitochondrial function. The cell’s power supplier, mitochondria are essential not just for longevity but for overall health.” Science Daily [Read more…]

Secret Beauty Ingredient of an Ancient Chinese Princess!

Secrets of ancient beauties may still be useful today! One such beauty was Empress Lu Zhi, who was known far and wide for her beautiful skin. When asked what her secret was, she would reply “Tremella”.

“Empress Lü Zhi (241BC-180BC), wife of Liu Bang, founding emperor of  the Han Dynasty (206 BC – AD 220), set great store by Tremella fuciformis. Both in civil life and as empress, she started each day with a bowl of soup made from this edible jelly fungus.”

As I’m feeling a little more ancient with each year,  a little ancient beauty secret is just what I’m looking for!

Do You Need a Skin Care Routine?

Are you a soap and water gal?  A bar of soap and a washcloth is all you’ve used for as long as you can remember?

That was me, too!  Every Saturday night, we used a white bar of soap that smelled really, really soapyLovely green soap and dish by sunshinesyrie (not perfumed), scrubbed ourselves all over, hard, with a rough wash cloth, and voila, we were clean enough to wear a dress with white gloves to church the following day!  What I remember the most was how dirty the water was after I got out of the bathtub, and how dry my skin felt for several days after!
