4 Steps to Applying Skin Care for Greatest Benefit

Do we know if the order of applying our skin care products aids or deters them being absorbed fully, giving us the full benefits of our products? Dermatology researchers now tell us it is important to prioritize the order in which we apply our cleansers, serums, medications and lotions.

Cleanse facial skin first

“Medications or treatments should be applied directly after washing your face,” said board-certified dermatologist Susan C. Taylor, MD, FAAD. “This ensures that the medications or treatments are properly absorbed by the skin. Otherwise, people may think a product isn’t working because it’s applied in the wrong order.”

My experience goes along with what Dr. Taylor suggests as the optimum order of application: [Read more…]

Activating Tonic or Toner?

What’s in Your Tonic?

After cleansing, it is common to use a toner or astringent to help remove the last traces of impurities and help close pores.

Unfortunately, many toner type products contain drying alcohol that can disrupt skin barrier function and increase drying of your skin.

Step 2 in the Celloxylin® regimen, Activating Tonic, is uniquely formulated to take advantage of the water absorbed by skin during cleansing and help prepare the skin to fully utilize the benefits of subsequent products in the regimen by opening your pores for better absorption of the Firming Complex.

Why Acetyl Octapeptide-3 is Better Than Injectables

I don’t use facial injectables as part of my beauty regimen, so when I have a chance to observe, fairly up close, someone who does, it interests me. I like to watch how her facial muscles contract, or not, how her emotions are expressed on her face matching the varying tones of her conversation, then try to guess which areas the formulas have been injected. I wonder if prolonged use of injectables does long term damage to the nerves, muscles and circulation within the tissues. I also wonder if the tissue “stretches” to accommodate the added volume, and if over time and with loss of collagen and elastin, will the area require more filler to keep it up, and if the tissue will eventually sag even more.

Someone I observed recently, was seated next to me at a luncheon. As we were chatting, I thought to myself back to the last time we had chatted, which was over a year ago. Then I thought she looked different, which was when it dawned on me she had had some cosmetic support as I noticed her forehead not moving and very little facial movement during the course of our hour long conversation. If I hadn’t honed in on her facial movement, or lack thereof, I would have left thinking how youthful and beautiful she looked. And she really did look lovely.
