3 Ways to Get Rid of Old, Dead Skin from Your Face

It’s a fact that as we age, our body’s ability to move along old, dead skin cells slows down. I have three different ways – and products – you can use to exfoliate your skin, so moisturizers can better absorb, doing their job more completely, instead of sitting on the top of your skin, giving you partial results.

Should I scrub, peel or masque?

If you think your skin is too sensitive for an exfoliating scrub, peel or masque, think again. Exfoliation has benefits for every skin type.

Why Exfoliate?
Exfoliation removes dead skin cells from pores, revealing fresh skin cells and making the pores appear smaller. Not only will your skin look fresh and smooth, but your makeup will also look better. And once the build-up is removed, your skin’s ability to absorb everything that follows, from acne treatments to your anti-aging regimen, is enhanced. [Read more…]

How to Protect Our Skin from Air Pollution Damage

Because living in a sterile bubble is not an option, how can we protect our skin from air pollution damage? Exhaust from cars, dust, dirt, and all kinds of environmental particles surround us whether we are inside our homes or outside taking a walk.

According to NASA, 80% of the world breathes polluted air—an alarming fact considering that the World Health Organization cites air pollution as the biggest environmental threat to our health. Besides cancer, particulate air pollution—a combination of dust, dirt, smog, soot and other toxins in the air—has also been linked to a host of respiratory conditions, heart disease and more. And it’s not only that: Did you ever stop to think about what it’s doing to our skin?

How Pollution Affects our Skin

We already know that it’s bad for our lungs, but it’s also aging our skin. Polluted air—composed of tiny particles that are as much as 20 times smaller than our pores—can easily pass through the surface of our skin and cause a series of cellular reactions that lead to inflammation, dehydration and collagen breakdown. This accumulated damage impacts our skin’s elasticity and firmness over time, giving our skin a rougher texture and causing premature fine lines and wrinkles to appear.

Aside from prematurely aging your skin, these nanoparticles also steal oxygen from the skin cells and strip the skin of its protective barrier, the shield that blocks dirt and impurities and holds in vital moisture. When the protective barrier is compromised, it also makes it easy for allergens and free radicals in the air to enter the skin, where they can cause the most damage, leading to increased skin sensitivity and pigmentation issues. It doesn’t help that as we get older it becomes harder and harder for our bodies to fight free radicals. It’s a vicious cycle.

What We Can Do

Since it’s hard to distinguish the damage caused by pollution from other factors, it always helps to have a solid skin care regimen to protect our skin from all types of damage. Here are a few ways to beef up our routine.

Wash Our Face Thoroughly at Night

The first rule of thumb is to never (ever!) go to bed without washing our face. We never want to let surface dirt and particles—as well as makeup—sit on our skin overnight. Look for a gentle cleanser that won’t strip our skin’s protective lipid barrier, which we know is so vital to keeping out pollution. Here’s a great gentle and effective surface and deep pore cleanser I recommend:  Celloxylin Step 1. Crème Cleanse

Load Up on Antioxidants—Inside and Out

We know that antioxidants neutralize damage-causing free radicals, so make sure our diet is rich in dark leafy vegetables and brightly colored fruits. Top it off with a high-quality antioxidant serum like Lifeoxylin Cellular Defense Elixir

Detox Our Skin

Enviro-Extract blend is a key ingredient blend that helps to remove additional heavy metals the skin is exposed to from the environment. It helps to chelate (attach to) heavy metals, remove toxins from the skin, and aids in guarding against future oxidative environmental exposure. I like to use Celloxylin Pure Detox, Purifying Masque

Strengthen Our Protective Barrier

Aside from using protective skin care products like sunscreen, make sure you use products that repair and replenish your skin’s moisture barrier, like Celloxylin Step 5. Day Defense Plus, Broad Spectrum SPF 25

Do Any of These 10 Fruits and Veggies Cause You Stomach Pains?

Noticing the onset of stomach pains after eating my daily apple, I did a search “apple causing stomach pains” and was very surprised at what came up. It appears there are certain carbohydrate sugars, many found in fruits and veggies, which might not be digested properly, causing stomach pains and other GI symptoms.

FODMAP is an acronym that stands for Fermentable Oligo-, Di- and Mono-saccharides, And Polyols. These are all technical ways of referencing certain types of carbohydrates (or sugars) — many of them healthy. Lots of people have a hard time digesting these types of carbohydrates, and they can become malabsorbed and/or create an environment in the gut for bacteria to ferment. All of this can wreak havoc on your GI tract and make for some very uncomfortable and possibly embarrassing symptoms.” (Source http://magazine.foxnews.com/food-wellness/10-healthy-foods-could-make-your-stomach-hurt)

New Procedure to Correct Receding Gums

Until recently, there have been two methods to correct receding gums – covering the exposed tooth roots with porcelain veneers, and gum tissues grafting. I personally had experience with the root covering, which fell off twice. I’m not a fan of the gum tissue grafts, as the tissue used when you need many teeth grafted would need to come from “another source.” No thank you.

I figured, wait long enough and someone will have a light bulb idea, which has happened. A dentist has developed a simple technique called the “Pinhole technique”.

Pinhole Technique Before and After

How it works:

“During the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique™, a needle is used to make a small hole in the patient’s existing gum tissue. Through this pinhole, special instruments are used to gently loosen the gum tissue. These tools help expand and slide the gumline to cover the exposed root structure.” [Read more…]

Weight Loss Help with a Probiotic Bacteria

Wouldn’t you like a little weight loss help? A probiotic may be your answer! A recent weight loss research study, published in The British Journal of Nutrition, found one bacteria in particular which promoted a greater weight loss over time, with the ability to keep lost weight off in those who took it as a supplement along with diet.

“According to Angelo Tremblay, (Professor at Universite Laval) probiotics may act by altering the permeability of the intestinal wall. By keeping certain proinflammatory molecules from entering the bloodstream, they might help prevent the chain reaction that leads to glucose intolerance, type 2 diabetes, and obesity.” [Read more…]

12 Things You Can Do to Find Happiness

Every now and again I step out of my world to take stock of the things which are and the things I would like to see happen. With a perspective of my life’s timeline, the opportunities to accomplish, make a difference and leave a positive legacy are coming to a close. With sixty amazing years behind me, I still have so much I want to accomplish, many things to do and say, and always, I want to continue improving in all areas of my life.

As I was reading online, one article led to another, led to another and I found a post titled:

12 Things Happy People Do Differently.”

Okay, I’m game to see what more I can do to increase my own happiness potential and the happiness of those I touch each day.

Author Marc Chernoff has hit the nail on the head with each “thing.” It was like a report card of my life and how it’s lived, and I scored high marks. I want to celebrate, not only because I am truly happy deep down in my heart, but because I believe the things we do come from a place in our hearts that when plowed and nourished can only bring fruit.

If our soil is cleansed of weeds (unforgiveness, anger, bitterness), amply fertilized (what we read, see, hear, where we spend out time, who we spend our time with), have planted good seeds (how we invest our time and energies in the things we do and who we spend time with) and water our seeds (love, support, encouragement, kindness, and care), we will produce beautiful fruit in time. Like a farmer reaping a rich harvest, or a gardener who enjoys the beauty of a blossoming garden, the joy of hard work and much care will lead to happiness in life.

The continual renewal and nourishing of our hearts and spirits I have found to be the key to happiness. For me it is the daily reading of the Bible, meditating on the stories, advice and words of encouragement which have planted seeds of love, and have set my heart and mind in the right place from which all else from my life flows.

Please enjoy Marc’s article and I wish you abundant happiness!

Eating Cheese, Cream and Butter is Good for You?

Yes, you read this right – a new study has found that eating a high fat diet of cheese, cream, butter and other foods high in saturated fats, actually decreased the incidence of diabetes and heart disease. Along with the increase in fats, they also ate less carbohydrates, which would mean more foods like cheese on broccoli or tomatoes, full fat cream and milk products.

“The study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, found overweight middle-aged men who ate high levels of saturated fat and low levels of carbohydrate became slimmer and healthier. Researchers also saw reduced blood pressure and glucose levels, which are associated with a lower risk of heart disease, Type 2 diabetes and cancer, in the patients.” [Read more…]

As a healthy eater starting your day with a nutritious breakfast, are sweets on your breakfast menu? Here’s why they should be.  If you don’t have a problem keeping a healthy weight, then this won’t be as meaningful to you as to someone like me, who, well, let’s just say – struggles.

Early or Skipping Dinner Healthier for You?

Can eating an early dinner, or skipping dinner altogether, be healthier for you? A new study shows results that are significant for health benefits when you do so.

“The first human test of early time-restricted feeding found that this meal-timing strategy reduced swings in hunger and altered fat and carbohydrate burning patterns, which may help with losing weight. In early time-restricted feeding (eTRF), people eat their last meal by the mid-afternoon and don’t eat again until breakfast the next morning. The findings were unveiled during an oral presentation today at The Obesity Society Annual Meeting at ObesityWeek 2016 in New Orleans, Louisiana.”

7 Tips to Keep Your Skin Moist in Cold, Dry Weather

The winds are beginning to blow, and heaters are being turned on everywhere you go! Do you struggle with dry, flaking, itchy skin in the winter?

When that unpleasant chill hits the air, it’s time to get tips on how to keep your skin hydrated in the wintertime. Dryness can be uncomfortable, and it’s important to defend yourself against the elements in order to maintain smoothness and suppleness all season long. Keeping skin beautiful and hydrated in colder weather calls for both internal and external care.

Soft, hydrated skin!

Dry skin care tips for Morning

  • Wash your face with lukewarm water—not too hot and not too cold— to wake yourself up without drying the skin or constricting your pores.
  • Cleanse your skin with a sulfate-free cleanser. Sulfates are extremely drying and irritating to the skin. In addition, lathering bar soaps and strong foaming face washes strip the skin of its natural protective water and oils.  Celloxylin Step 1. Crème Cleanse!
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. As you probably already know, moisturizing is key for dry skin types. Apply your moisturizer right after cleansing to lock in the water before it evaporates. Look for a moisturizer with a broad spectrum SPF to protect against the sun’s damaging rays. Celloxylin Step 5. Day Defense Plus, Broad Spectrum SPF 25

Dry skin care tips for Day

  • Your skin will dry out as it’s exposed to the elements throughout the day. That’s why it’s important to re-apply moisturizer whenever you notice your skin becoming dry. Carry a moisturizer in your bag so you can dab a little on whenever necessary.  Celloxylin Hydro-Burst Moisture Intense Lotion.
Drink water. It may seem obvious, but sipping on water throughout the day naturally keeps your body— and by extension— your skin cells, hydrated.

Dry skin care tips for Night

  • At night, once again cleanse your skin of makeup and the day’s pollutants with a gentle, sulfate-free cleanser using lukewarm water
  • Immediately after, apply a heavier moisturizer or cream that will sink in throughout the night. Rich creams are dry skin’s best friend. Look for creams containing nourishing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin or oils such as olive, and coconut oil. While these thicker lotions are too heavy for the day, the night gives your skin plenty of time to absorb all of their hydrating properties. Try our Celloxylin Step 5. Night Repair 3Deep!

Does Keys Creek Lavender Stress Relief Mist Really Work?

In a previous post titled “Ahhh Lavender!” I shared about my wonderful find in the Keys Creek Lavender Farm. One of my purchases was the Lavender Stress Relief Mist, which I’ve now had the delight to try out and I can truly say I LOVE it!

Keys Creek Lavender Stress Relief Mist!

One of the things I love about it is that when you spritz it on, the fragrance lasts for a long time, and it smells so very, very lavender, it is truly lovely. I take deep breaths in and enjoy it so much. Before I’ve even realized it, I’m snoozing, no matter how fast my thoughts are coming, or how many problems I’m trying to solve, or the hour of the night, it works before I’m  even are aware it’s working.

An example was the other night, when I had a few work things on my mind, good things which needed to have just the right sort of creativity to bring about my desired result. Creative juices flowed, even overflowed. Add to this that someone very dear to me decided to take a red eye flight across country. When my head met my pillow, dear one was 31,000 feet in the air. I wasn’t worried, but the thought of it was uncomfortable, and checking the flight tracker app on my phone from bed wasn’t as soothing as a lullaby, right?

So I spritzed a full spritz of my Keys Creek Lavender Stress Relief Spray and in no time I was fast asleep. Know how I knew it worked quickly? I woke up 5 hours later, just in time for dear one’s landing, watched the landing, did another spritz and, voila!, quickly back to sleep.

The best thing was I woke with no “cotton head” but a clear head and renewed energy for the day!
