Oil Pulling Results

It’s been one full year since I began oil pulling, and I’m very excited to share my results! First, this is what I have done for the past year, missing only one day:

First thing each morning, swished and “pulled” one full teaspoon of Organic Coconut Oil around and through my teeth for 10 – 20 minutes. (You can read more about the what and how of oil pulling in my post “Oil Pulling.”)

I must also tell you that after a few months, I had my teeth cleaned and my dental hygienist said my gums looked noticeably healthier, but I shouldn’t expect the recession to grow back.  She then had the oral surgeon stop by to examine my gums and provide a consultation.

He said I would need extensive gum grafting after my 18 month orthodontic treatment was complete. Cost in the $10,000.00 range. So extensive it would be too large to use my own tissue, unless we divided the surgeries into four partial graftings. UGH.

This made me even more persistent in being consistent in doing my oil pulling every day. Others had experienced new gum tissue grow back, and I wanted the same. So here I am just past the one year mark, diligently swishing each morning, and not really paying much attention until one day I took a very close look at my gums. What a lovely surprise to see the pockets tightened on all of them, with evidence of new gum tissue filling in the gaps.

If you aren’t interested in seeing a photo of my gums, thank you for reading so far, and stop now!

I wish I had a before photo – I might be able to get one from my dentist or orthodontist for my next update. Here’s my gums now and I am very happy with my results so far! (I have invisalign braces which you can notice in the photo).

Notice the filling in of gum tissue now more pointed rather than fully arched. New tissue is filling in on the sides of the arches especially two front top teeth. Bottom teeth are almost all filled in and tightened!

Oil pulling also whitens your teeth, and keeps you overall healthier. I think rinsing with salt water after is also very helpful in overall oral health.
