We are always looking for a simple way to lose those extra pounds, right?
An article in the Women’s Health Magazine shared that researchers from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine recently published results from their study in the journal PLOS ONE, that doing one thing early in the morning can promote a lower BMI (Body Mass Index) like those in their study. No difference their diet or their level of activity, the participants who spent a few minutes doing this all had lower BMI. Remarkable!
Here’s what to do:
Spend 20 to 30 minutes soaking up rays of the morning sun, between 8:00 am and 12:00 noon every day.
Here’s why it possibly helps:
- Getting some sunshine early in the morning helps to set your internal metabolic clock. Just as the darkness allows our natural melatonin to kick in, so the morning light sets our internal clocks, providing a more consistent sleep – wake cycle each day. Consistent sleep helps our metabolism to function more efficiently.
- Morning light is higher in blue light, which stabilizes our circadian rhythm. This supports the regularity of our internal metabolic clock as well.
How to do it:
Take your morning cup of coffee, tea or hot lemon water out on your porch and breathe deeply, look at your surroundings, focus on nature, listen to the sounds of the wind or birds, and think thoughts of peace as you enjoy the rays of sunshine. I think this may help reduce stress a bit too!
