4 Tips for Vibrant Skin with Changing Seasons

If your skin could talk, what would it say to you? “Help me, I’m drying out!” or “I can’t breathe with so many old skin cells piling up all over me!” or “I’m red, itching and burning up! Put out the fire!” or even “I’m feeling old, sluggish and oh, so droopy! I need a quick Pick-Me-Up!

bundled upAs we go from season to season, our skin’s protective function needs to adjust. We go from cold temperatures with the  icy winds of winter and dry heaters blasting in your car and home, to the milder temperatures of spring, a rain shower here and there, and the sun showing its smiling face more often with a little greater intensity.

Our circulation of nutrients is spastic as the cold causes our blood vessels to constrict, the heat brings vasodilation. On and off, on and off, like a light switch, our skin is getting its food in big and small jolts every now and then. We are also keeping our skin under wraps with piles of wool and fleece, barely giving it a chance to catch a breath of fresh air or a hint of natural sunshine. So how about a little help for our very important protective friend?

Here are my tips to keep our skin looking fresh and vibrant with a healthy glow through the changing seasons:

1. Exfoliate ~ Moving the old skin cells away regularly, allows your skin to breathe better, and absorb your moisturizers more effectively. Use a Sugar Scrub every other day, alternating with a mild, yet very effective Home Acid Peel twice a week. A 20% peel with lactic, glycolic and salicylic acids no lower than pH 3.5 is perfect.

2. Feed – Use Skin Care Products that nourish and protect your skin, free of toxins and fragrance, filled with nutrients that feed the glow of health. Look for ingredients like Water, Antioxidants, Resveratrol, Peptides, Natural Oils, Hyaluronic Acid, Caffeine, and calming botanicals, all a plus. Stay away from Sodium laurel sulfate, pthalates, petroleum, and go light on the parabens, and artificial fragrance.

3. Protect – Protection from UVA/UVB damage of the sun is the number one goal. Sunscreen of 25 – 30 SPF will provide you 97% protection, use in your Day Moisturizers (25 SF) and Powders (30 SPF). Wear protective clothing, like a hat, or light weight sleeves, and use an umbrella when you can.

4. Moisturize – Often! If you wash your hands frequently in a public washroom, your skin’s protective barrier will be compromised by the harsh industrial cleansers. Have your Nutrient Rich Body Lotion Moisturizer with you or in your desk drawer, ready to use after each visit. I leave my favorite Cleanser and Moisturizer at the Nail Salon to use with each Manicure and Pedicure.
