Looking Fabulous Counts Every Day!

Ever had a day when your body tells you it wants comfort, warmth and a feeling of relaxation in your dress, but your head tells you to step it up for the occasion? I just did, and it was not pretty!fashion

My week was super busy, I’ve yet to find a pair of comfortable shoes to soothe my feet as I walk throughout several buildings all day long in my life as a Concierge, and the stress of getting a few extra things done abounded. When the weekend arrived, I immersed myself in dressing for comfort, as it felt so relaxing and rejuvenating. Getting ready to attend Saturday evening church services, known for a more relaxed audience, I wasn’t exactly looking very fabulous this night.

My outfit – from bottom to top:

Please do not gasp or pass out. Yes, I really did wear this. Yes, I was toasty warm, and immensely comfortable.

  • My favorite K-Swiss tennis shoes (about 8 years old, slightly scuffed – in my defense, I do clean them regularly.)
  • White socks (thinking warmth here, I just could not take them off.)
  • Straight legged jeans (yes, they were worn looking. Sigh of disgust.)
  • Black Turtleneck.
  • Colorful (orange, red, brown, black), hooded Sweater my daughter brought me from Scotland – VERY warm. (I looked like I was wearing a whole sheep.)
  • My glasses. This was probably the best part of my outfit.

I did not listen to the “I’m Looking Fabulous, Always Give Your Best” voice YELLING in my head “Don’t Do THIS!”

Then it happened.

As we were leaving, a beautiful woman walked by, we exchanged glances, after she passed me, she turned around and said “I know you?”

Dear Lord.

After we spoke, she graciously said, “I didn’t recognize you with your brown hair!” How truly kind of her. My hair is the same color it has always been. Our sons played basketball together years ago, and she is one of the most elegant Mom’s I know. Always dressed impeccably and so cheerful, someone I looked up to. I let her down. I let myself down. I learned the lesson I have learned before, and planned never to relearn again! Looking your best counts. Always.

Well, I had a chance to redeem myself today – a new beginning and a fresh start. Thank the Lord!  I went for a manicure today and dressed in:

  • Casual dress black slacks.
  • Black mock turtleneck sweater.
  • Black faux fur vest.
  • Calvin Klein leopard ballet flats.
  • My Tortoise shell glasses.

Sitting next to me at the manicure bar was another woman, looking like she felt exactly like I did yesterday. I had sisterly love for her the moment I saw her. We began to chat. What a wonderful and most pleasant surprise to find out she is Italian, like me, and recently started a new job, like me, too! Oh, the joy to learn she is in the fashion industry, working at one of the most upscale department stores ever. My faux pas is forgiven and I found a new friend in our commonalities. I knew exactly how she felt, and we shared a couple of laughs together, parting with a little sunshine from each other on an otherwise cold and rainy day.

So, Here’s what I am going to do:

  • Find a few very comfortable and warm outfits to wear for those days when I need nurturing.
  • Have them ready to wear at all times.

Because Looking Fabulous counts every single day!

Love and hugs to all!
